I'm a media addict and avid meditator based in Portland, Oregon.

As part of the vanguard of the West Coast's new media venture scene for the past decade, I've learned through experience the key factors needed to penetrate critical new media market segments. I work at the intersection of digital media and innovation, most recently as the Content Director for Oak Meditation, an app helping people make meditation and mindfulness a daily habit through meditation, breathing, and sleep exercises.

Previously I worked as editor-in-chief and program chair of events for the Lean Startup Co., an organization that helps established and startup organizations craft smart experiments that lead to radical success, and as editor-in-chief of biannual Anxy Magazine. I also consult companies looking to sharpen their digital strategies to reach new young audiences, such as Bay Area News Group in Silicon Valley. 

The American Press Institute (API) contracted me in 2015 to research and write a best practices strategy study on how newsrooms can widen their reach with digitally-savvy millennial audiences. I spoke on this topic at the ONA15 and ASNE conferences in fall of 2015  on API's behalf and again in 2016 at the NYPA's Spring Convention. 

My  background is in establishing the vision, content, and teams that inform innovative publications run by Gannett and Dr. Drew Pinsky. For Gannett, I worked as Editor-in-Chief at The Bold Italic and I served as the Managing Editor at DrDrew.com.

I've also been a pop culture critic for years, first as the music editor for alt-weeklies The Stranger and SF Weekly, and then as a freelancer for publications ranging from RollingStone.com and Cosmopolitan.com to NoiseyRefinery29, Mic., KQED, Afar, C Magazine, and the San Francisco Chronicle. My work has also appeared in Salon, Vice, Spin, and Entertainment Weekly, among other outlets.
